The Department of Ayurveda was established in 1995 under the guidance of Padmasree Dr K.Rajagopalan who advocated innovative academic programmes instead of the conventional programmes in Ayurveda. He formulated the academic approach more on an applied perspective than a conceptual implementation. Thrust on research and innovation, the department has been offering research programmes, programmes highlighting skill training and industry linkage, applied integrated programmes, intrusive employment specific programmes towards awarding PhD, Post graduate Diploma and Diploma. Department headquartered at Kalady has been offering Direct PhD programmes in Ayurveda since 1995. In 2016, the Department extended its academic activities to the Regional campus, Ettumanoor , focusing more on innovative academic programmes.
