About the Department

The Department of Hindi as established in 1994 focus to popularise and promote post-graduate and research studies in Hindi. The department started to offer M.A. Programme in 1994 while M.Phil and Ph.D programmes were initiated in 1995. Post Graduate Diploma in Translation and office proceedings in Hindi was started from 2002. Within a short span of time, the Department has emerged as one among the prestigious Post-Graduate and Research centres in Kerala for Hindi Language and Literature. Besides Kalady, M.A. Hindi course is offered at Regional Campuses like Thiruvananthapuram, Panmana, Ettumanur, Thrissur, Tirur and Payyanur with a number of 20 seats in each centre. M.Phil and Ph.D programmes are offered only at the Main Centre situated in Kalady. At Present 60 research scholars are pursuing their research work. 66 research scholars have been awarded Ph.D Degree. The Department possess a permanent faculty of 21 teachers in all. The Department could bring out numerous Publications  like  “Adhunik Hindi Sahitya Vivid Ayyam” (1999), “Samakaleen Hindi Upanyas: Samay aur Samvedadana” (2006), “Uttaraupaniveshik Vimarsh aur Hindi Kavita” (2011) and “ Samakaleen Kavita ke Aayam” (2013). Dr. V.K. Abdul Jaleel and Dr. P Ravi, the former Heads of the Department, and Dr.Shanti Nair, the present Head of the Department worked as the contributors as well as Editors of these publications.

About the Program

The Department of Hindi offers credit system in M.A course. The duration of the course is 4 semesters with 64 credits. There will be 16 courses and each course carrying 4 credits. Out of 16 courses 11 courses are core papers, one seminar course and 4 are electives. The system of evaluation will be a combination of Internal and external examination. 50% of the credits will be for internal evaluation. Evaluation will be based on 9 point grading system. There will be three components for internal assessment for each course as follows: a. Seminar Presentation b. Assignments c. Mid Semester Examination Other things regarding the valuation will be as per the Regulation for the M.A. Programmes under Credit and Semester System Effective from 2019 admission onwards
