Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, was established in 1993 in the name of the great exponent of Advaita Vedanta, Sri Sankaracharya, at his birthplace, Kalady. The main objectives of the University are the promotion of the Sanskrit Language, Literature, Indology, Indian philosophy, and the cultural traditions of India.
The Department of Sanskrit Vedanta belongs to the Faculty of Indian Metaphysics. The philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, presented systematically by the great Acharya Sankara, is considered the highest contribution of India to the world.
In the Department, serious studies on the teachings of Vedanta are going on. Several National and International seminars and workshops are being conducted to explore, preserve, reserve, and propagate this great Advaita tradition. This department also organised a series of eminent lectures on pertinent topics of Advaita under the title "Sree Sankara Annual Lecture”.
A galaxy of traditional Scholars and intellectuals from all over the world were invited to these Seminars and other academic events. Our mission is to preserve the unique spirit of Vedanta and to spread the ideology of Advaita Vedanta to every corner of the world.
The Department of Sanskrit Vedanta is deeply committed to the study and dissemination of the Advaita Vedanta as systematised by Acharya Sankara. Research in the Department explores the philosophical and religious dimensions of Advaita Vedanta and examines the impact of its ideas on society, culture, and intellectual traditions. Through rigorous textual study, interdisciplinary inquiry, and scholarly engagement, the Department works to highlight the enduring relevance of Advaita Vedanta in understanding social values, ethical frameworks, and spiritual thought across historical and contemporary contexts.

The B.A. Sanskrit Vedanta programme offers a foundational study of Sanskrit and Vedantic philosophy, with special emphasis on Advaita Vedanta. It combines classical textual learning with critical and interdisciplinary perspectives, introducing students to major Vedantic texts and related philosophical systems. The programme develops analytical, research, and interpretative skills, preparing students for higher studies, teaching, and intellectually oriented careers.
