About the Department

The department of Bharathanatyam was established in 1995 and belongs to the Faculty of Arts and Social Science. It offers U.G., P.G. and Phd programs in Bharathanatyam. From basic lessons to advanced performing items are imparted through practical classes and class room lectures cover theoretical part of the syllabus. The objective of the sessions is to help the students gain a detailed knowledge of various dance theories, knowledge of performance, modern stage, different approaches etc.

Dignified faculty includes professional artists and performers. Many students of this department have won prizes and awards at University and National levels. Many of the students who were passed out from this esteemed institution are graded artists in Dooradarsan and teachers of reputed institutions.

 Mission

The Department of Bharatanatyam - with its mission to enrich the learning experience of dance and dance culture- has initiated state of Art academic programs to cultivate creative artists and performers globally. Academic programs enable the art enthusiasts to grow in an optimum level and bridge them to the contemporary art society to address the societal norms and edify with expertise.

 The department envisages nourishment of traditional Indian dance forms to explore its heritage and splendours. This institution is thriving towards the state of being a shrine of Art education , Aestheticism and Philosophy. It promotes and provides excellency and proficiency for artists and moulds them as matured artists and philosophers in the academics.

The M A Bharathanatyam programme is a two-year Post graduate course that offers advanced training in bharathanatyam through practical and theoretical study. About the Program

B A Bharathanatyam is an under graduate Degree programme that provides systematic training in the classical Indian Dance form Bharathanatyam. The course combaines practical dance training with theoretical studies related to dance, music, culture and performance. The duration of the programme is 3 year.
